Prince George's County fire officials said high winds and a rain gutter have caused multiple fires at an apartment complex.
County fire spokesman Mark Brady said wind gusts detached a piece of rain gutter from a building at Holly Springs Meadows apartment complex in District Heights about 1:45 p.m. today. The gutter blew onto nearby power lines, causing an electrical charge through three attached apartment buildings that then sparked several fires.
Brady said the fires ignited in the ceilings and walls, and were initially difficult for firefighters to locate.
He said about a dozen people were evacuated, and 42 apartments were affected. He said residents in those apartments will be displaced. |
