Spring Time Ladder Safety
As spring time quickly approaches and the ground softens it is time to get your installers focusing on ground conditions and ensuring that their ladders are secure when setting them up.
We have talked before about doing a jump test from the first step of the ladder to check for soft or unstable landscape and this is definitely a time to re-train all installers of this quick and easy practice.
During this time it is also important to keep some pieces of scrap lumber with your installers to help disperse the weight as well as stabilize and support the ladder so the feet do not sink into the soft ground.
We recommend using a 2” x 12” at least 24” long for this. You should drill holes on each edge of the board and put re-bar or barn spikes thru the board and 6” – 8” into the ground if the conditions could allow the board to slide.
Also screw a small piece of 1" material on the back edge of the board to ensure the ladder does not slide back.
