Properly carrying extension ladders.
This week we will look at ladder safety and particularly how to properly carry extension ladders.
I like many other gutter installers used to carry my ladders straight up in the air from area to area. There were numerous fatalities last year in the construction industry due to carrying ladders upright and hitting high voltage power lines . There were also numerous back injuries from losing balance or the wind catching the ladder while carrying it upright.
Any time you carry an extension ladder it should be carried horizontally. Also scan up, down and side to side to evaluate terrain as well as overhead lines before ever moving a ladder.
